Jeff Huebner

I'm a multiple award-winning arts journalist, freelance writer, and author based in Chicago. I've written or co-written five books on Chicago-area public art and community murals and muralists, including Walls of Prophecy and Protest: William Walker and the Roots of a Revolutionary Public Art Movement (Northwestern, 2019). A longtime contributor to the weekly Chicago Reader and to the now defunct Public Art Review, I've written articles for dozens of local and national publications, including Sculpture, New Art Examiner, ARTnews, Art Papers, Landscape Architecture, Ceramics Monthly, Chicago magazine, Chicago Sunday Sun-Times, etc. My journalism awards have included Best Arts Feature from the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies’ Annual Awards (2001), and from the Society of Professional Journalists/Chicago Headline Club (2019), both for long-form investigative stories. I was an inaugural recipient of the Rabkin Prize and have received many grants, including from the Andy Warhol Foundation and the Finlandia Foundation.
